We asked four members of the Luxlaria clinical advisory board to document their first 20 minutes after waking. Despite different specialities — neuroscience, materials science, sports medicine, and sleep research — striking patterns emerged.
Minutes 0–5: Hydration before caffeine. Every advisor drinks 500ml of water (two add electrolytes) before coffee. Dehydration after 7–8 hours of sleep impairs cognitive performance measurably.
Minutes 5–12: Light movement. None begin with email. Walking, stretching, or brief mobility work activates the parasympathetic-to-sympathetic transition more gently than jumping into screens.
Minutes 12–20: Targeted recovery. Two use red light exposure. One uses a 15-minute eye therapy session. One does breathwork. All treat this block as non-negotiable — the same way they treat training.
The protocol is not about optimisation theatre. It is about signalling to your nervous system that the day begins with intention, not reaction.
